A Guide to Bathroom Vanities

When it comes to sharing bathroom space, the vanity set up can make or break the relationship! Many couples spend a great deal of time focusing on spa bathtubs and marble showers, but neglect the space where they actually spend a greater amount of time - the vanity area.

A "His" and "Hers" vanity set up is a must for couples sharing the same master bath. There are many double sink styles that give each person their own space for washing up and brushing teeth. If you are both on the same work schedule or often find yourselves getting ready for bed at the same time, the double sink lets you both be in the bathroom at the same time.

The "His" side of a bathroom vanity needs to take into account everything a man will be doing in the vanity area. If he shaves at the sink, then there should be enough room on the vanity top to hold shaving supplies or ample drawer space to keep everything tucked away. Any groom supplies can fit neatly below the sink or in a built-in cabinet next to or behind the mirror.

The "Her" side of the vanity is a bit more complicated. Most women spend more time getting ready and often like to sit down for their lengthy morning routine. An electrical outlet on her side should be able to support the hair dryer and curling equipment. A larger counter top on her side apart from the sink will allow her spread out her makeup and leave out decorative perfume bottles.

In planning your vanity area, take into account what other types of appliances will need to be plugged in all of the time. Will you have an electric toothbrush or automatic contact lens cleaner? Will one of you be operating a hair dryer while the other uses and electric razor? One of the biggest mistakes in planning out a bathroom vanity is not having enough outlets. Some outlets

can be below countertop level and special spaces can be cut into the vanity top to allow cords to come through. This will help keep the clutter of tangled cords off your vanity top.

The base part of vanities varies greatly with personal decorating styles. Traditional vanities with drawers and cabinets are extremely affordable and easy to install. There are also vanities that resemble a beautiful chest of drawers. These can be topped with marble counters and an illusion basin to create a stylish blend of old world tradition with modern design.

Another feature of the bathroom vanity that has become popular of late is to use natural stone products. This includes tiles made of unpolished marble, granite, limestone, travertine, and slate. These blend well with tub surrounds and flooring of natural products as well as with ceramic tile. They are also easy to clean and maintain.

There really is nothing quite like the luxury of a custom bath and vanity. Just remember in choosing your vanity's features to consider who will be using the vanity, if it will be shared, and what materials will give you the longest lasting beauty for the least amount of care.

Don't forget your bathroom floor - Bamboo Flooring is the perfect choice. Bamboo is a natural product, actually classified as a grass, but it has all the warmth and beauty of hard woods.
